DUANE PETRUS – The two men found guilty on the murder and robbery of an elderly couple on a farm in Parys earlier have both been sentenced to life plus 18 years in prison this morning.
Acting Judge Wilfred Phalatsi handed Ezekiel Mnguni (30) and Oupa Mokoena (49) their sentences in the Parys Magistrate’s Court.
The bodies of Ernst and Annatjie van Rooyen were found on their farm Somerset with that of Annatjie stuffed inside a freezer with meat stacked on top of her in January.
Mmaditaba Mokubung (46), who was found in possession of some of the couple’s stolen property, was acquitted because there was not enough evidence to convict her.
Police spokesperson, Peter Kareli, says the life sentenced was handed down for the murders, while the 18 years is for the charge of aggravated robbery.
