Parliamentary oversight visit to Mangaung set to commence

The Parliament’s Portfolio Committee is set to visit the Free State Department of Cogta for parliamentary oversight.

The committee will be in the province for four days to carry out its constitutional mandate of overseeing and monitoring government activities, ensuring effective service delivery at both the provincial and local government levels.

During the oversight, the committee will look into the Mangaung Metro Municipality and the Maluti-a-Phofung Municipalities. Presentations will be made to the committee led by the MEC for Cogta, Saki Mokoena, on the state of the municipalities in the province.

In April 2022, the province was placed under Section 139(7), which entails the intervention of provincial government due to the municipality not meeting their constitutional obligations. The committee will further conduct site visits and interact with communities around Bloemfontein.
