The arrest came through various operations led by SAPS members. Police Spokesperson, Aafje Botma, says of the 315, a total of 25 were arrested for contact crimes including murder, rape, and robbery.
OFM News reports that the other 129 were arrested for liquor-related offences including driving under the influence of alcohol, public drinking, and illegally dealing in liquor. A total of 172 fines were issued, including 80 for road traffic-related offences. Meanwhile, 18 undocumented persons were taken in for processing.
Police further seized eight pistols, one rifle, three shotguns, firearm parts, two magazines, two dangerous weapons, 699.37 litres of liquor and two sheep.
The North West Provincial Commissioner, Sello Kwena, welcomed the arrests and said they will continue with the operations to discourage criminal activities and ensure that perpetrators are brought to book.
