Land claim beneficiaries in the community of Delareyville in the North West Province are to receive more than R26 million compensation vouchers for their land today.
According to the Chief Director of Land Restitution Support for the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform, Lengane Bogatsu, 121 households are to benefit from the compensation vouchers.
He says this follows a successful land claim that began in 2008 by the community that was forcefully removed from their land. “Each household is going to get R228 000 as compensation as their land is not restorable because of developments.”
He says the total number of affected households was 384 which have been compensated in different phases, of which the last group will be compensated in the final phase of the next financial year.
Bogatsu added that the people who are considered as beneficiaries are those that meet the requirements of section 2 of the Restitution of Land Rights Act, 1994 (Act No. 22 of 1994), as amended.
