The Mangaung Metro Administration says that the city has not engaged in any procurement of food parcels and thus is distancing itself from allegations thereof. This comes after pictures and comments were making the rounds on social media about the quality of food parcels that were distributed in Thaba Nchu in the Free State.
A statement issued by MMM spokesperson, Qondile Khedama, says it was an initiative from the Executive Mayor, Olly Mlamleli, together with private business people who have volunteered to assist Mlamleli with food parcels during the lockdown period as Mlamleli had previously indicated that she could not fold her arms when the city and the country are facing a problem of this magnitude. The statement says Mlamleli felt that it was her duty as a leader to play her role even at a small scale.
The Manguang Administration says that it will continue to focus to execute its constitutional mandate through providing basic services to residents and to ensure the city does its part to reposition its financial situation. –
