Man sentenced to life for murdering his wife

An Eastern Free State man was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife. According to Free State police spokesperson Mmako Mophiring the man brutally beat his wife with a rusted steel pipe in front of bystanders.

“On Saturday, 2 March 2024, at about 23:25, the deceased person, Matseko Mofokeng, was seen hiding from her husband, Bennet Mofokeng, in front of another yard on the farm. The husband came out looking for her. She ran away from him, but he pursued and caught up with her. The other farm dwellers saw him continuously beating the woman several times until she became unconscious. She was later declared dead,” Mophiring said.

The perpetrator was then arrested and appeared in the Bethlehem Magistrate’s Court. He remained in custody while awaiting trial. Last week, he was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife.
