What began as a spark in 2015 for Isaac Ekenechukwu has evolved into a bold and expressive fashion journey rooted in identity, culture, and self-discovery.
Inspired by his brother, Khadime Seck, the designer reflects on how fashion “found” him, a turning point that shaped both his creative direction and purpose.
Speaking to Bloemfontein Courant, Isaac said his brand, Livkon, meaning Living Kingdom, was established in 2015 and came with significant challenges. “We experienced many obstacles, one of them being building a proper client base. But we persisted, and now we’re gaining more clients than when we first started,” he explained.
A recent milestone for the brand was its showcase at the Bloem Show Fashion Parade. “It was an honour to display our unique ideas. It was the first time people really saw our work on such a large scale,” he said. Isaac also highlighted designing matric dance outfits as a proud achievement, noting the positive response from clients.
He emphasised that Livkon is more than just a fashion label; it represents a philosophy that celebrates individuality, heritage, and the power of storytelling through clothing.
Mentorship has played a key role in his growth. Influential figures such as Kwaku Boateng have helped refine his craft and deepen his understanding of the fashion industry. “These relationships helped transform raw passion into a more defined and intentional creative voice,” he added.
At the core of his work is a desire to stand apart from the ordinary. His designs draw from Afrocentric, Afrofusion, and Afropunk influences, blending tradition with a modern edge. Bold colours, textured fabrics and unconventional silhouettes reflect what he describes as the spirit of “people of sunshine”.
Looking ahead, Isaac remains optimistic about the future, with plans to showcase at events such as the Lemo Fashion Show and the Free State Fashion Show. For Livkon, this marks just the beginning of a growing creative kingdom.
