Kovsie Sport reported this week that two of the University of the Free State’s stalwarts form part of the Protea contingent that will start the 2022 Netball Quad Series in England this week.
The two players, Khanyisa Chawane and Lefébre Rademan, travelled with their South African teammates to London and will play their first match of the series against the hosts on Saturday.
The former Kovsie captain, Karla Pretorius, will not be in action in London as she is taking some time off since she is expecting her first baby.
The two Kovsie representatives also helped the national team retain its Africa Cup title in November 2021. The young Refiloe Nketsa was the third Kovsie in the side that finished the Africa Netball Cup undefeated.
Chawane and Rademan both represented the UFS the last few seasons and have contributed to the success the university achieved on the netball court over the years.
Chawane was the KovsieSport Sportswoman of the Year in 2019 and Rademan, who will be playing for the Celtic Dragons in England this year, has captained the UFS.
The South African team attended training camp last week before getting onto the plane for the Netball Quad Series, which takes place from 15 – 19 January 2022 at the Copper Box Arena.
The tournament will be contested between the Proteas, England, New Zealand and Australia. The previous time South Africa took part in the series was in 2019, ahead of the Vitality Netball World Cup.
The 2022 series also serves as proper preparation for the Commonwealth Games later this year.
