Duane Petrus – A Free State government ambulance which was hijacked on Sunday night has been found abandoned in Lesotho. The ambulance was hijacked by four armed men in Wepener around 19:30 when the paramedic driving it made a stop at a friend’s house.
Police spokesperson, Yanga Ngcukana, says all the occupants of the house were held at gun-point in one room for about 30 minutes.
He says the vehicle was recovered last night after a South African tracking company located it in Lesotho and authorities there were notified.
Ncgukana says the vehicle will be back in the country on Monday.
He also said criminals usually cut the fence at the border to gain entrance into Lesotho and the ambulance would most likely have been converted into a taxi there.
No arrests have yet been made.
