The Fauna community garden, Lumela Community Garden, needs the help of the community to continue expanding and growing.
The garden, originally started by Marlé Robinson and Sethiri Legae, has flourished since.
Ward councillor David McKay, together with Eric Lamb Nursery, recently donated three apricot, three peach, and four walnut trees. Ané Kruger also donated 120 different plants to expand the garden even further. “All these plants only need water once every two weeks,” said McKay.
He adds that the purpose of the garden has always been clear and it has been well supported by the community, but unfortunately not as many people work in the garden. Marlé’s husband, Brian Robinson, says they try to maintain the garden on a daily basis, but they still need help. “We need people to come help water the garden, cut the grass, pluck out weeds and even donate plants and trees for us to continue expanding the garden.”
Robinson adds that the garden is open to everyone and that people are more than welcome to come and enjoy some of the vegatables in the garden. “Our only condition is that you leave enough for your neighbours and keep the garden in good condition.”
