The DA in the Free State has requested the SA Human Rights Commission to investigate alleged human rights abuses stemming from a water crisis in the province.
DA provincial leader Patricia Kopane says she also wrote to the MEC of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, Olly Mlamleli to formally demand that the ANC come up with an action plan to resolve the crisis.
This after a survey found that 26 Free State towns either have no water, disruptions to their water supply or unhygienic water sources.
Kopane says the problems are caused by water treatment plants, dilapidated pipes or dry dams.
She says incompetent people are employed to maintain the municipalities pipeline infrastructure
