Duane Petrus – 34 New vehicles were handed to police stations all over the Free State in Bloemfontein this morning.
The provincial commissioner, Simon Mpembe, says this will make sure that the stations in the province are well resourced during the upcoming festive season.
The vehicles were handed to the Border Control, Operational Response and Crime Prevention units, which are usually the first ones on a crime scene.
He urged the members to look after the vehicles, and not use them for private matters.
He says this will also increase police visibility, which could reduce crime in the province.
“High visibility serves as a deterrence of crime, but it also increases the hope of the communities, because you will never see a criminal committing crime in the presence of police. So, it is very important to us and it boosts the morale of the society,” Mpembe says.
