Free State Legislature’s spokesperson Life Mokone confirmed the death of speaker, Sisi Mabe.
He explained that Mabe died on Sunday after an alleged long illness at Vereeniging Medi-Clinic at the age of 47 years old. Mokone said before Mabe was inaugurated as the new provincial speaker in May this year, she was the provincial MEC responsible for Health and subsequently Public Works and Rural Development. He described Mabe’s death as a great loss.
“Mabe was a strong, brilliant and humbled woman. She was a dedicated servant of the people of South Africa and as the Free State Legislature, we believe that her death is a great loss to the country,” he said.
Meanwhile, opposition parties have sent out condolescenses to Mabe’s family and colleagues. Economic Freedom Fighter’s provincial leader Mandisa Makhesini said Mabe’s untimely death is a shock. She added that it was too early for her family and organisation to loose such a strong woman as Mabe and wish them strength.
“The DA learned with sadness on Sunday of Mabe’s death. We wish to convey our condolences to her family but also to her friends and colleagues within the ANC,” said DA’s Roy Jankielsohn.
