Free State resorts and reserves to phase out cash payments

The Free State will in due time phase out the use of cash payments at the departments 14 resorts and reserves in the Free State.

This is according to a public notice from the Department of Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (DESTEA). “Following the interactions and engagements with stakeholders, Destea is introducing exciting measures to improve the quality of its services and the experiences of visitors in the various recreational sites within the province.”

The department encourages the use of electronic and pre-payment methods for bookings as the attempt to phase out cash happens gradually. This will in future protect employees from “the risks associated with handling of cash”.

Destea suggests the following methods of payment:

  • Speed point payments
  • EFT
  • POS
