The Bethlehem Magistrate’s Court granted former attorney Corne Ackerman (45) bail after allegedly defrauding a law firm of more than R16 million.
According to the Hawks, Ackerman who is facing 40 counts, allegedly transferred money out of the firm’s trust and investment account to several unknown beneficiaries between January and June last year.
“When confronted, he allegedly could not account for the transactions that he made. The case was reported the Serious Commercial Investigation Office which effected an arrest after a warrant of arrest was issued,” said Hawks spokesperson, Warrant Officer Lynda Steyn.
Steyn added that Ackerman was given R25 000 bail with specified conditions pending his next appearance on 18 May 2020.
