Eskom system staatus update

Owen Kock

Bloemfontein. – According to the electricity supplier, there’s generally sufficient capacity to meet the demand most of the day.

The concern however is the peak demand between 5pm and 9pm when customers return home from work. Residential customers, particularly those that use geysers, space heating and pool pumps can make the biggest difference by switching off this equipment during the peak period.

The capacity available to meet this evening’s peak demand is 36 583 megawatt, while demand is forecast at 33 414 megawatt. Current planned maintenance stands at 3 076 megawatt, while unplanned outages are recorded at 3 800 megawatt.
