Eskom proceeding with interruption of bulk supply to Tokologo Local Municipality

Tokologo Local Municipality’s failure to honour its payment agreement has left Eskom with no other option than to interrupt bulk supply to the municipality.  As published in notices on 8 February 2018 and 14 February 2018, the interruption will commence on 21 February 2018 and continue indefinitely.

Tokologo Local Municipality is currently indebted to Eskom to the amount of R36 464 659.52 for the bulk supply of electricity, part of which has been outstanding and in escalation since August 2012.

“After extensive engagements with the Tokologo Municipality, we have decided to continue with the planned interruption as it has become clear that negotiating with the municipality is not delivering the desired outcome,” says Bibi Bedir, Senior Manager Customer Service Free State.  “Although we are legally allowed to disconnect the bulk supply to the municipality in total, we are weary of the fact that it may cause undue hardship to consumers and members of the community.  Hence we have opted for a regulated interruption of electricity supply as opposed to an outright disconnection.”

Consumers in Boshof, Dealesville, Hertzogville and Seretse will be affected by the planned supply interruptions.

Temporary scheduled disconnection will be effected at the following times:

Week 1 (21 February 2018 – 27 February 2018)
Monday to Friday Saturday and Sunday
06:00 – 08:00 08:30 – 11:00
17:00 – 19:30 15:00 – 17:30
Week 2 (28 February – 6 March 2018)
Monday to Friday Saturday and Sunday
06:00 – 09:00 08:30 – 12:00
17:00 – 20:30 15:00 – 19:00
Week 3 (7 March 2018 until agreement is reached)
Monday to Friday Saturday and Sunday
06:00 – 20:00 06:00 – 20:00

Notwithstanding the above proposed indicative times for the interruption of electricity supply, Eskom may, upon 15 calendar days’ notice, serve the right to disconnect electricity entirely and indefinitely should the electricity debt situation not improve.
