The National Museum in Bloemfontein is set to host another year of the Free State Young Artist Awards competition in celebration of Youth Month.
According to the museum, the competition will be open to all school learners between 5 and 19 years old.
“Fight Drought – Exploring resilience and innovation, invites students to capture the beauty, challenges, and innovative solutions emerging from the importance of sustainable water management in drought-affected landscapes. Let’s spark creative dialogue and inspire action towards a more harmonious relationship with our environment.”
Entrants are requested to show the importance of sustainable water management in their art work.
The three categories are as follows:
Category A: 5 to 9 years
First prize: R1000
Second prize: R300
Third prize: R150
Category B: 10 to 14 years
First prize: R2000
Second prize: R600
Third prize: R300
𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗖: 15 to 19 years
First prize: R3000
Second prize: R1000
Third prize: R750
Competition rules:
- Only original artworks created in 2024 can be entered.
- Artworks must speak to and highlight the theme.
- Artworks can be two or three dimensional and be made from a variety of mediums.
- Artworks may not be larger that 1m x 1m x 1m or weigh more than 30kg.
Interested entrants are required to submit a complete entry form which they can collect at the National Museum or at the Oliewenhuis Art Museum. It can also be downloaded from https://nasmus.co.za/free-state-young-artist-competition…/. The competition closes on 2 August 2024.
