Engineer shares knowledge on YouTube

At the age of 77, Dr Philip Stott, a research fellow in the Department of Civil Engineering at the Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT), has decided to share his knowledge with the world on his YouTube channel, Creation Science with Philip Stott.

Dr Stott, who is a started his YouTube journey at the beginning of the national lockdown last year. This as a result of not being able to go anywhere during the pandemic. “For many years I have been invited all over the place to go and give lectures on science and the Bible. In lockdown it was impossible to go anywhere, so I thought I would share my material on YouTube for anyone to watch,” he said.

Dr Stott is said to delve into his fast knowledge of related matters and produces content through short, easy-to-follow and understandable videos. His channel, Creation Science with Philip Stott, takes a look at what some well-known scientists have to say and at what the Bible says about some fascinating aspects of the creation.

According to him, he had no difficulties setting up his YouTube channel. “I have a daughter who is an expert in technical stuff and I am not as good as the youngsters but I started off in the computing environment in 1964. I was working on the second biggest computer in the world at that time. When I was in Nigeria, I was second in charge of the computer, so I am not technically illiterate.”

Dr Stott also made history in 2018 when he received another doctoral degree at the age of 74 and became the first D.Eng Civil Engineering student to receive this qualification at the CUT. He has been a Bloemfontein resident since 1973.

“Before that, I first worked in England, then I lectured at the University of Nigeria, and eventually I was a lecturer at Wits,” he said. Dr Stott is currently doing geotechnical research at the CUT.
