By helping people deal with their everyday problems earned Central University of Technology’s campus director two awards.
CUT’s Dr Solomon Makola, based at the university’s Welkom campus says the first award is a national award from the Psychological Society of South Africa for his good practice and community engagement. He said for the past twelve years he had been involved with a national radio station teaching people about respective psychological issues.
Makola also added that for the past eighteen months he has also been involved with a Welkom community radio station on a weekly basis, assisting people with issues that are affecting them. He says he scooped the second award for his social media work by helping people to find meaning and purpose in the midst of their adversity.
“As we do know that people are faced with challenges and pain, each and every day, my responsibility is to help people to find ways through which they can cope with their respective challenges and it was out of this effort that I received nominations both from the national radio and community radio station listeners,” he said.
Makola said his social network friends contributed a lot to his awards as they nominated him by writing a letter on how he contributed or made a difference in their lives. He further added that he will soon be releasing his fourth book, titled “Find meaning, stop wondering”.
