D-Day for the inland semi-finalists in Varsity Sing

It’s D-Day for the inland semi-finalist in the Varsity Sing competition, with only two choirs that will advance to the finals

The first semi-final of Varsity Sing, sponsored by FNB, concludes on Thursday night, on kykNET.

Inland universities, the University of Pretoria (Tuks Camerata), the University of Johannesburg (UJ), the University of Free State (UFS-Kovsies) and Central University of Technology (CUT), are all vying for one of the two available spots in the final, taking place on 13 October 2016.

After last week’s stellar performance, Tuks Camerata enter the second round as hot favourites. “Tuks Camerata is the one choir that stands out amongst the rest,” said judge, Marvin Kernelle. Kernelle is known as the judge who never sugar-coats the truth.

Kernelle will be joined by judges Loyiso Bala and Christo Burger, while Hemel Besem joins the trio once again as guest judge.

The second semi-final is scheduled to air on 29 September and 6 October, where the University of Stellenbosch (Maties), the University of the Western Cape (UWC), the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU), and Rhodes University will compete for a place in the final.
