Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT) is pleased to announce the official on air launch of CUTFM. The radio station will be live and on air starting 19th of January.
The station broadcasts in three languages (60% English, 30% Sesotho and 10% Afrikaans), and the target audience is ages 16 to 35 which include scholars, students and young working adults.
The programming content is categorised as urban youth radio focusing predominantly on topics/issues and news concerning the youth. The station will also offer youth alternative vehicle that will drive youth agenda.
The station will play a critical role in the life of Mangaung Metro and the surrounding towns in terms of bringing an alternative listenership especially for students and youth in this region.
The Independent Communication Authority of South Africa (ICASA) awarded the university the community radio broadcasting licence in September 2014. The licence is one kW with a 10kW ERP which covers the Mangaung Metropolitan and the surrounding regions with the radius of 120 km to 150 km.
This means that the station will reach as far a number of towns in Matjhabeng, Xhariep, and Thabo Mofutsanyane Districts, Northern Cape and Lesotho.
The stations office space and studios are all situated at CUT’s Bloemfontein Campus, in the Lapeng Student Centre.
Ms Laila Nnyane, Station Manager, has a management team of nine working with her to bring the best urban youth programming possible and 50 student volunteers.
