#ChildTragedies: FS police investigate culpable homicide

Free State police confirms that they are investigating the death of a three-year-old girl who was fatally knocked down by a bakkie on Sunday.

OFM News reports that the toddler and her father were allegedly knocked down by this bakkie on the N8 towards Petrusburg, 50 kilometres outside Bloemfontein, where ER24 paramedics found them lying on the side of the highway. Police spokesperson, Thandi Mbambo, confirms to OFM News that  “a case of culpable homicide has been registered”. It’s not yet clear whether a suspect has been brought to book for this or if the police have launched a manhunt after the death of the toddler.

Emergency medical services ER24 spokesperson, Ross Campbell, says the girl was declared dead on the scene while her father received advanced life support interventions before he was transported to a private hospital for further care.

“ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at 17:10 to find the toddler and father lying on the ground next to the highway. Unfortunately the girl had suffered fatal injuries and was declared dead on arrival,” Campbell added.
