The new Premier Soccer League club, Siwelele FC, made a strong statement in Bloemfontein on Sunday by officially unveiling their first-ever head coach.
Legendary Bloemfontein Celtic captain, Lehlohonolo Seema, has been appointed to the position, marking an emotional return to the City of Roses. The 45-year-old Seema, who also proudly wore the colours of Orlando Pirates during his playing career, takes on his first coaching role since parting ways with Sekhukhune United in March this year.
Club chairman and owner Calvyn Le’John, CEO Stan Matthews, and several players were also in attendance. While the long-term goal is to relocate the club to Bloemfontein, it remains a major logistical task. For now, the club’s headquarters will stay in Pretoria. The Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville will serve as their home ground for the time being, although some matches will be hosted in Bloemfontein.
On Sunday, 3 August, Siwelele will take on newly promoted Orbit College FC from Rustenburg in a pre-season friendly at Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium. The return leg will be played three days later in North West.
Siwelele are set to kick off their PSL campaign on 9 August against Golden Arrows in Atteridgeville. – MORGAN PIEK
