Cable theft disrupts health services at Bongani Hospital

The Eskom cable that supplies electricity to Bongani Regional Hospital was stolen last night (25/07).

According to the Free State Department of Health’s spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, the hospital has been operating on generators from 21:00 up to now.

“The theatre team from Bongani Regional Hospital (led by medical officers) has been designated to evaluate available theatres in the District and around the province as a backup to be used during dire emergency cases whilst the cable is restored for electricity supply,” says Mvambi.

He further says that the MEC for Health, Montseng Tsiu, has expressed her disappointment at this act of vandalism that the lives of those who are in need of life support and health emergency services.

“The infrastructure services are attending to this urgent matter and hopefully they will restore the cable and bring back services to normality in the shortest possible time. They will be giving updates which the public will be made aware of,” Mvambi concludes.
