Border Post to Lesotho closed in Qwaqwa

Police in the Free State have sent out a notice that the road to the Monontsa Port of Entry at Leratong Village in Qwaqwa has been closed because of snow. Police spokesperson, Mmako Mophoring, says the border post is only accessible from the South African, and the Lesotho side via foot. He says the border post is not closed and he  advises travellers on the South African side who wish to enter neighbouring Lesotho on foot to leave their vehicles at the Leratong Village.

According to him, people will then have to walk in the snow for about 2km to access Lesotho. Travellers should use the Caledonspoort Border Post at Fouriesburg when travelling via car to Lesotho. This until weather conditions improves. Mophiring says it started snowing on the Drakensberg mountain range area early this morning.
