Bloemfontein police work round the clock to trace cop killers

SABRINA DEAN AND DUANE PETRUS – Bloemfontein police say they know the identity of the two suspects who shot and killed a police constable in front of her home in Freedom Square last night.

Spokesperson Thandi Mbambo says 33-year-old Ntsoaki Molebatsi had gone home for dinner and was accosted by two suspects as she tried to get back into her police vehicle to return to the office. Molebatsi, who was stationed at Bayswater, was shot in the chest and died at the scene.

"At this stage we believe the suspects are armed with two pistols – the one they used during the incident and they one they stole from her, which is a service pistol," she says.

Mbambo says the investigating officer was still busy conducting witness interviews early this morning. "The investigating officer is still busy with the witnesses but we do have a lead and police are working round the clock to try and trace the suspects," she says.

She says they hope to provide more comprehensive information on the identity of the suspects later this morning.

Police are investigating cases of murder and robbery.
