Bloemfontein’s Kayleigh Kruger will be heading to the International Cheer Union (ICU) World Championships in Orlando, Florida, in April to not only represent the country but her hometown as well.

“I am super excited for this dream to finally become a reality and to show everyone the hard work and effort that was put into this sport. I also can’t believe that I get to see other beautiful parts of this world through something I adore and love with all my heart – cheer!” said a very excited Kayleigh.

Her mom, Caroline Kruger, said Kayleigh started cheerleading in grade 8. As the years went by, her love for this sport only grew stronger. “She thought it was a good idea to take it a step further by trying out for the Protea team,” she said. She has always wanted to follow in her older sister’s footsteps, who also is a Protea cheerleader.

“We would be extremely proud to see her hard work pay off, especially because Kayleigh is hardworking and when she sets her mind to something, she commits. She proves this daily as she also does extremely well in school. She is dedicated and loves what she does. So this makes us as a family extremely proud,” said Kruger.

The Kruger family are in the last stretch of raising funds to send their daughter off to the United States. They currently have three different competitions running in order to raise the funds.

The one is a matric farewell competition which costs R100 a ticket and the prize compromises of a dress, photographer, hair for both the girl and boy, make up and nails. The two other competitions are raffles. Both cost R50 and you can stand a chance to win a brushcutter, a leaf blower, or a wash, cut, and colour for hair and nails.

“We would like to call upon anyone to assist us in raising the last of the tour’s money so we can make her dream come true. We are extremely grateful for any kind of help. Time is running out as we need these funds by end of March,” said Kruger.
