Bloemfontein – Toyota Cheetahs coach, Naka Drotske, has labelled Teboho “Oupa” Mohoje as the player for the future following the loose forward’s outstanding Super Rugby debut season thus far.
The man at helm of the regional Super Rugby franchise has lauded Mohoje’s consistent performances in his debut Super Rugby start, saying the UFS Shimlas’ skipper “is very explosive.”
“He is quality and he is definitely the player for the future. He is a good ball-carrier,” Drotské told Courant Sport.
“He is probably the best line-out/loose forward in South Africa at this stage and a very good ball carrier so he has got all the talent to go all the way,” he added.
Since the Cheetahs had been dealt with double blow in the loose forward department following injuries on Lappies Labuschagné and Jean Cook, the 23-year-old utility forward has been a worthy replacement.
Labuschagné sustained a groin injury against the Crusaders while Cook has been side-lined with a shoulder injury since their match against the Bulls in Pretoria.
With the duo still recovering from injury, Mohoje has proven to be a suitable replacement and Drotske has faith in his player reaching the highest level in rugby.
“One thing he needs to work on, and he will tell you, is stopping power on defense. If he can do that, he will play a lot of tests for South Africa,” added Drotské.
Mohoje will again partner Springbok flank Heinrich Brüssow when the Cheetahs host the Brumbies in Saturday’s match in Bloemfontein.
The match at the Free State Stadium kicks off at 19:10.
