The Arno Carstens Trio is currently touring South Africa, after releasing Carstens’ latest EP, “Sewe Sakke Hoop”. The trio will be taking to the Urth stage on Friday night (1/11), marking their first return to Bloemfontein in years.
The trio, which has been together for more than 15 years, comprises of Carstens, the lead vocalist who also plays guitar, David Watkins, a keyboard player, trumpeter, and backing vocalist, and Werner von Walstleben, who plays the drums, bass and creates backtracks and samples.
“Sewe Sakke Hoop”, a five song EP, is Carstens’ attempt to spread a positive message. “I thought the ‘Sewe Sakke Hoop’ is like a bag of hope per day,” he told Bloemfontein Courant. “So I sort of gave it a bit of a functional vibe.” The album evokes emotion and touches on many important topics. “There’s many different feelings and emotions,” said Carstens, “of hope, despair, and overcoming adversities.”
Carstens is looking forward to being back in Bloemfontein, and said: “I like Bloemfontein because the people are nice. “I haven’t played there for a million years, so I have to definitely come around.”
The audience can expect a good mix of Carstens’ solo hits, some music from his time with the Springbok Nude Girls, and some surprises.
“I just would like the people to come and have a great evening with me,” he said. “Maybe there’s some songs that you know, it will be a lot of fun. There’s some new stuff, some old stuff, just come and have fun.”
