The Free State Department of Treasury will be extending the international anti-corruption and fraud awareness week to different districts.
MEC Elzabe Rockman says they will do things differently this year, instead of holding the seminar only in Bloemfontein. She was speaking in Kroonstad this afternoon where different stakeholders gathered to share ideas on the latest trends, methods, processes and internal control mechanisms against fraud and corruption.
Rockman describes fraud as any kind of action where an individual benefit where they are not entitled to, which doesn’t always involve money.
“We are now currently busy cleaning up our database suppliers. We will make sure that all the suppliers on our database in the province meet all the compliance regulations and requirements. Where they don’t, we are assisting them to make sure they reach that level of compliance. We have also put in a lot of effort to make sure we strengthen government internal audit units as well as the risk management units,” she says.
Rockman says people can report allegations of irregularities on the national anti-corruption or the presidential hotlines. She says corruption is a global problem that undermines growth, development and service delivery.
The international anti-corruption and fraud awareness week seminars began in Bloemfontein on Tuesday and will be in Bethlehem tomorrow.
