17 Numsa members arrested in Welkom

GALOOME SHOPANE 17 Numsa members have been arrested in Welkom today.

Police spokesperson Steven Thakeng says six women and 11 men ranging between 26 and 62 years of age were apprehended when they reached Fox Road in Doorn.

Thakeng says the 17 men and women were all arrested for illegal gathering.

He says they will appear in court on Monday.

Meanwhile Numsa regional Secretary General Andile Zitho says they are still in talks with their lawyers trying to secure their release.

Zitho says “we really don’t understand the excitement of police because this is a purely labour matter.”

Salary negotiations will continue tonight at 6pm in Johannesburg.
