15 die on FS roads

GALOOME SHOPANE Fifteen people have tragically lost their lives in less than 24 hours due to road accidents in the Free State.

Police spokesperson Peter Kareli says the accident between Jacobsdal and Modderfontein claimed the lives of two women and three men in a head-on collision.

He says the accident happened at 19:50 last night.

He says the victims where aged between 23 and 53.

Kareli says another accident between Windburg and Marquard, two women and five men lost their lives due to a burst tire, causing the car to roll several times.

He says there was only one survivor who was admitted to a nearby hospital.

Today three people, including two men and a child died when the van they were travelling in overturned on the R717 towards Reddersburg.

ER24’s Luyanda Majija says “the back of the van which was without a canopy was carrying 8 people whilst two others sat inside. The driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle and it rolled on the gravel road.”

Police are investigating all the cases.
