Spring is in the air and what better way to celebrate than with a good old-fashioned boerewors braai.
It is also time for South African’s to vote for the best boerewors recipe in the country in the annual Shoprite Checkers Championship Boerewors Competition. Central Media Group today had the opportunity to cast their votes at a special Shoprite Checkers Championship Boerewors tasting hosted by Shoprite Checkers at Central Media Park.
Bloemfontein Regional Manager Paul Jordaan says boerewors is a truly South African dish that they want to keep alive. He says the competition also does its part for the red meat industry.
Joubert says sales for the current Shopright Checkers Champion Boerewors stand at 124 tons from August last year until now.
“Just for the three-pack (2016 finalists) we’ve sold 13 tons over the last month.”
Recipes have now been narrowed down to three finalists, namely Jacobus Olivier Kritzinger from Joubertina in the Eastern Cape, Winter Reaobaka Letlhogile from Kimberley in the Northern Cape and Vukile Vincent Cele from Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.
South African’s are now being asked to sample the three recipes and vote for their favourite. Voting closes on September 9. – Sabrina Dean
