Free State MEC of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs on Tuesday visit Soutpan.
Mlamleli said she will be meeting Soutpan residents to discuss the amalgamation of Soutpan with Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality. She explained that Soutpan residents have requested the Municipal Demarcation Board to be part of Mangaung. Mlamleli further added that in the province the submissions to merge with Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality were only made by the Naledi local municipality and Soutpan.
“Soutpan is a dry town and there is no development around it. If they are moved to a better municipality for their own economic development it will increase the equitable share of Mangaung Metro,” she said.
Mlamleli disputed rumours that Jacobsdal that is based in the Western Free State nearby Kimberley, could likely merge with the Sol Plaatje Municipality in Northern Cape Province. Mantsopa local municipality was also part of the Motheo District, was dismantled after the previous local government elections and it was made part of the Thabo Mofutsanyana District Municipality, when Mangaung became a Metropolitan.
