The Toyota Cheetahs flyhalf Reinhardt Fortuin is set to be back in action for the team this week, but he will most likely not be used as the backline marshal for the important Currie Cup game against the Pumas in Nelspruit.
The versatile Fortuin hasn’t been unavailable for the Cheetahs during the match against the Sharks and last week’s Currie Cup derby against the Griquas.
This was due to the player getting married and being on honeymoon.
While Fortuin is back this week it is unlikely that he will be playing at flyhalf against the Pumas. The player will in all likelihood play at inside centre on his return, while Ruan Pienaar is set to run out in the number ten jersey again.
The Cheetahs coach, Hawies Fourie, told OFM Sport that he will probably play Pienaar at flyhalf again.
“Ruan did the right things and at the right moments,” said Fourie.
“We he sees space he has got the ability to pass the ball on a tikkie for 20 plus metres. So I will stick with him I think against the Pumas just for game management, and especially when he’s playing at flyhalf he is in the backfield as well when the other team kicks the ball. He can then kick it back, which he did really well.
“His experience and decision making at flyhalf is vital for us.”
Saturday’s game between the Pumas and Cheetahs at the Mbombela Stadium kicks off at 15:00.
