Dan Patlansky has returned from his UK tour and is here to introduce his brand-new album to Bloem.
Perfection Kills has been released worldwide on 2 February 2018. The album is the follow-up to 2016’s critically acclaimed Introvertigo, which was voted #1 Blues Rock Album in the world by Blues Rock Review USA, and which was his ninth studio offering.
Perfection Kills was recorded at Scherzo Productions, a recording studio in Dan’s home town of Pretoria, South Africa. “I chose Scherzo because I wanted to make a different sounding record from my last two albums. I felt that Scherzo supported my vision,” he said.
The inspiration to the album is something simple. “I wanted to make an album that represented my sound live, or closer to it, than my previous albums. We left all the rough edges and didn’t over process anything, which resulted in a more organic sounding record,” Patlansky said.
“Perfection Kills is all about my vision of making a record that still makes song-writing a priority as in the past; the final product delivers a far more real and organic result.”
What sets the new album apart from its predecessors is the honesty and live sound of the songs. Dan specifically recorded the 10 tracks to come across close to what they will sound like when performing them live.
His favourite song on the album is “Mayday”. “I like the somber feel and lyrically it’s a subject very close to me,” he said.
Perfection Kills is a concept he wholeheartedly believes in. “In any art form perfection doesn’t exist because there is no yardstick to measure it by. The pursuit of perfection ends up doing far more harm to the art than good. ‘Why try to be perfect?’ was the mindset we adhered to when we went into the recording studio.”
Patlansky is set to return to the City of Roses on 20 April at 20:00 at the Aasvoëlklub. Tickets cost R185 or R285, which will include a signed Perfection Kills album.
