GALOOME SHOPANE Hundreds of Numsa members have taken to Bloemfontein’s streets to make their voices heard. Regional secretary Andile Zitho says they are not willing to settle for anything less than a two digit salary hike. Scott Mojaki who works at a panel beating shop says he’s taking part in the strike because employers refuse to hear their demands. Mojaki says they want a R5 per hour increase which will mean R30.
“We want R19 per hour for the cleaners, and pregnant ladies get paid for three months only and after that they get nothing, so we want them to be paid for six month,” says Mojaki.
The union’s members in the Free State and Northern Cape have been picketing outside their work stations since Monday, while their fellow union members in Johannesburg have been on strike.
