Bloem Water has confirmed to Bloemfontein Courant that the video making the rounds on social media with allegations that the Rustfontein Dam burst its banks due to heavy rains is false.
According to Bloem Water spokesperson, Kido Thoabala, no Bloem Water infrastructure was affected by the rain and they are still pumping water normally.
Thoabala further said that the water that blocked the N8 road yesterday was rain water that overflowed through storm water drainage.
“The water was caused by floods in that area as it happened in some parts of Bloemfontein, ” she concluded.
Meanwhile the Manguang Metro Municipality has issued a statement regarding localized flooding that affected areas such as Dinaweng, Caleb Motsabi, Phase 7 to 9, Bergman Square and Khayelitsa.
