MMM aware of land invasion in Lourierpark

The Mangaung Metro Municipality (MMM) strongly condemns the land invasions currently taking place in Lourierpark, Bloemfontein.

According to MMM spokesperson Qondile Khedama, the erection of illegal structures started last night, 1 March 2024.

“All relevant departments of the City are on the ground to make assessments and intervene and MMM land invasion unit in the Human Settlement directorate has opened a case. This will assist both our law enforcement team and SAPS to execute their responsibilities on site,” said Khedama.

He added that while the municipality does have a constitutional mandate to ensure – where required and with available resources – that all citizens can enjoy their basic rights and further gain authorised access to land and housing, it also has a duty to intervene where land invasions occur.
