The Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality is currently discussing the implementation of pre-paid water system.
The municipality spokesperson Qondile Khedama says the issue must first be verified before they make it official. He says they have to address the community and confirm if they would be ready for the change. “After talking to the community we will take their response of the majority and see what they say. We are doing this because we have to listen to the feelings our people,” he says.
“From the municipality management and administration view, it is a merger that is assisting in coordination with regard to finances. It also alleviates water administration in the sense that there will be people who will be querying their accounts and those that are not paying at all. Those are the advantages but at this stage, we cannot commit and say this is going to happen,” Khedama says.
Khedama says they understand the condition of the constitution regarding free basic services.
