Demolishing of buildings in Bloemfontein

Owen Kock

Nelson Mandela Drive and Zastron Street in Bloemfontein will for the next few weeks be a beehive of activity and traffic will in all probability have to be diverted, as buildings in both streets are scheduled to be demolished.

Project Manager for Ross Demolition, Phillip Redelinghuys, says they have until the end of the month to clean up the premises of a demolished building in Second Avenue in the city.

They will start with demolitions in Nelson Mandela Drive and Zastron Street within the next two weeks, and have been given six weeks to clear after they start demolishing buildings. Second Avenue between Nelson Mandela and Zastron has been cordoned off as steel trusses are currently being removed.

The buildings belong to the Georgiou Group and a presentation of the future developments will be made known within the next couple of weeks. The streets will be cordoned off today only to ensure the safety of the public. No further streets will be cordoned off after today and traffic disruption will be avoided.
