Despite the finals being hosted in Bloemfontein, no side from the city will be competing after HTS Louis Botha were knocked out in the regional finals played this past weekend.
Each year, a district that hosts brings two schools and this time the Motheo region will be represented by two schools, Metsimaphodi Secondary School (Dewetsdorp) and RT Mokgopa High School (Thaba ‘Nchu).
They will be joined by Virginia’s Harmony High (Lejweleputswa), the most successful school in the history of the tournament. Relebohile Sibulele Secondary School (Xhariep), Tlokola Secondary School (Thabo Mofutsanyane) and Thabang Secondary School (Fezile Dabi) will also participate.
The provincial winner will receive the trophy and a R100 000 cash prize that goes with it, while both finalists will automatically represent the province in the Nationals.
Matches will be played at the Grey College soccer field, from 9am.
The national tounament will consist of 18 teams, two per province, and will take place at Giant stadium in Pretoria from 5-9 October, 2014.
The Sanlam Kay Motsepe tournament, now in its 10th year has a staggering R3,4 million to allocate to the winning schools at provincial and national levels.
All the prize money is to be used to fund school projects that will enhance pupils’ learning experience and help the community.
The defending champions, Clapham High School from Pretoria, are out of the tournament after failing to secure enough points in the provincial finals and therefore didn’t qualify to play in the final match.
Holy Trinity High School and Thaba Jabula Secondary School are the teams to represent Gauteng at the Nationals.
