The speaker of the Free State Legislature is currently consulting with the legislature’s legal team before she can respond to the Democratic Alliance’s letter she received yesterday that requests her to reconvene the committee that appointed Henk Boshoff.
Ouma Tsopo says her response will be based on what the law states and she will either respond today or tomorrow. Tsopo believed the matter regarding Boshoff was finalised after the majority of parliament members voted for his appointment as the provincial public service commissioner.
According to a DA statement, they object to Boshoff’s appointment because he is a vocal ANC member representing structures such as the IEC’s Provincial Party Liaison Committee.
Tsopo says she explained to the DA that Boshoff isn’t holding a political position and is only assisting the ANC with election matters. Tsopo explained the different ANC structures.
“You either participate at branch executive level, or you can participate in the regional, provincial or national executive committees. So Henk Boshoff is none of those four participations, he just sitting at the Multi Party Liaison Committee representing the ANC.”
