About 1 200 learners from across the province will be taking part in the South African School Choral Eisteddfod (SASCE) Provincial Competition, which is hosted by the Free State Department of Education at the Doxa DEO church in Bloemfontein.
The competition started this morning and ends on Saturday, 18 May 2019.
Learners will be competing in various categories, including solo soprano, mezzo soprano, solo tenor, solo bass, duet and small ensemble.
Working in partnership with the Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation, the competition aims to create a platform for learners to showcase their singing talents, stage performance and dramatic arts.
The foundation phase (grade 3-4) and intermediate phase (grade5-4) showcased their talents today, while secondary schools (grade 8-12) will do so on the third day.
The winners from the provincial competition will proceed to the National South African School Choral Eisteddfod (SASCE) Competition which will be held at the Rhema Church in Randburg from 25 to 28 June 2019. – Seithati Semenokane
