The Free State Crinums are upbeat and confident heading into this weekend’s Telkom Netball League in Pretoria.

After a tough opening weekend in the country’s premier netball competition, the Crinums secured an important win on the weekend with a hard-fought 52-51 victory over the North West Flames.

The Crinums led the tight match 16-12 after the first quarter and managed to take a 27-23 lead into the half-time break.

The Crinums continued to keep their noses in front of the Flames in the third quarter to lead 39-35, but had to hold on for dear life in the final 15-minute period to edge their rivals from Potchefstroom.

This win saw the Crinums climb up to third in the standings.

Another tough ask waits for the team from the Free State with the defending champions, the Jaguars coming up on Friday.

Crinums vice-captain Bianca de Wee, told Bloemfontein Courant that this week it is about implementing the lessons learnt.

“We are super excited that we got to move up one spot in the log to third. Reflection on the past weekend’s game against the Flames, we will just be using this focus on the area that we need to improve and tweak a bit here-and-there.

“Having said that, we are just super excited to have tournament continuing each weekend.”
