On Monday 29 August 2022, the 46-year-old accused Thabang Johannes Mokotjwa appeared before the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court where he faced charges of fraud and corruption.
According to the Hawks spokesperson, Christopher Singo, it is alleged that during March 2021, the victim intended to obtain a drivers licence when he was approached by Mokotjwa and other accused, who then told him that they know Matsobane Michael Mokhonwana (48) who can assist him with obtaining a drivers licence.
“The victim then met Mokhonwana who then agreed to help him obtain his driver’s licence for the amount of R8500. The victim then paid R8500 as agreed. The accused are not working at any traffic department but when they lured the victim they claimed to know certain traffic officials who can assist with drivers licences,” says Singo.
After several follow-ups were made by the victim, no feedback was allegedly provided by the accused. The matter was then reported to the Hawks in Bloemfontein.
Mokotjwa was arrested on Monday 29 August 2022. The other accused, Keneilwe Elisa Molehe (53), Kebautlwile Jacqueline Kgwadi (47), Matsobane Michael Mokhonwana (48), Lehlohonolo Athy Molosi (46), and Ishmael Selogiloe Kganare (42) were arrested between January and May 2022.
The case against Mokotjwana was postponed to Monday 5 September 2022 where he will join his co-accused. He was released on R500 bail.
