Bloemfontein Celtic women’s team midfielder, Gabisile “China” Hlumbane, is confident that South African National women’s soccer team, Banyana Banyana, will play well against Ghana in Sunday afternoon’s friendly match.

The Banyana midfielder said that sticking to the game plan and the instructions will help the team walk away with a win against the offensive West African side.

“Ghana is a good team, and African teams always want to do well against Banyana. They are bringing a good squad. Zimbabwe did that and Ghana will surely do that,” Hlumbane told Courant Sport.

“So, it’s not going to be easy for either Ghana nor for South Africa,” she added.

"They’ll (Banyana) do well, if the coach’s instructions and intentions are adhered to. I don’t think they will struggle."

Hlumbane, who is not part of the squad, believes that the available players will make the nation proud.

“The team has prepared well and the players know what is expected of them. Having prepared as thorough as they have, I do not think they will struggle to accomplish what they want.”

“They are also preparing for CAF, so I believe they will take into consideration what they might be facing as far as that tournament is concerned,” she added.

The friendly encounter will also prepare the home side for what promises to be an intriguing African Women’s championship qualifier against Comoros later this month (23 May 2014).

The team’s captain and defender, Janine van Wyk, returns from injury. The centre-back was out for almost three months due to a knee injury and will be looking to help tighten the team’s defense.

The match at the Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto kicks off at 15:00.
