Young Bfn model goes international

“I’m the master of my faith and the captain of my soul.” These are the words of 14-year-old Tatum Macalagh, who is taking the modelling industry by storm.
Tatum, from Heidedal, Bloemfontein, a learner at Brebner High School, recently got the opportunity of a lifetime when she was scouted by one of the biggest modelling agencies known in the industry.
FanJam Model Management, with its head office in Cape Town, is known to provide local aspiring and professional models the opportunity to walk for the biggest fashion houses and appear on the covers of the best magazines. CK, Versace, Jill Sander, Valentino, Vogue, Elle, Cosmopolitan, are a few of their leading clients. Tatum, who could not believe it when FanJam discovered her on Instagram, is over the moon about the opportunity. “At first I was shocked and excited at the same time. I couldn’t believe it, because FanJam Model Management is a big agency with great clients internationally,” Tatum said.
Yolande Macalagh, head of eModels in Heidedal and also mother to Tatum, describes her as a passionate young girl who sets goals and always speaks life into them. Tatum started her modelling career from a young age as her mother has always been active in the modelling industry.
“My role model is a unique, significant, God fearing woman, my mother. She’s my motivator and inspires me to reach my goals and to set them to a higher standard, to believe in myself and give my all in anything I do,” Tatum said.
A few years ago when Tatum joined eModels Bloemfontein, her mentor was Jeanre Neethling. “She is a phenomenal woman with a great personality and a heart of gold. She’s driven me to excellence and has made me believe that I am the #chosenone,” Tatum said.
As a female model, her message to other girls is, “Be yourself, walk with your head held high. It doesn’t matter what your circumstances at home are, don’t let that bring you down.”
