“Bloemfontein always tends to take the back seat when it comes to practising new inventions like yoga,” says Daniel Ellis, owner of Live Love Yoga Studio.
This form of meditation and relaxation has been known for over 2 000 years and many followers cannot imagine life without their daily ‘yoga diet’.
Daniel is originally a wedding dress designer and he loves to paint in his free time. But who would ever have thought that yoga would work in Bloemfontein? Daniel had no doubt that Bloemfontein needed a place where overstressed individuals could come and regain energy in a peaceful atmosphere.
Rikus Ziehl is also part of the Live Love yoga team. He says: “Yoga is for everyone – no matter your size, age, flexibility or stress levels. It is also not a religion, but a philosophy. Yoga means ‘union’ and the aim is to bring breath, body, mind and spirit back into balance. How does yoga change you? It makes you happier, healthier and helps you to be mentally alert.”
Before each session, the students meditate. According to Definitions.net: ‘Meditation is a practice in which an individual trains the mind or induces a mode of consciousness either to realise some benefit or as an end in itself. The term meditation refers to a broad variety of practices that include techniques designed to promote relaxation, build internal energy or life force, and develop compassion, love, patience, generosity and forgiveness”.
One of the yoga students says: “Yoga is hard exercise but it has helped me to handle stress better, it makes me more aware of my emotions, builds my self-confidence and depression is no longer a factor in my life.” This is evidence that yoga is not only exercise, but strengthens your body physically as well.
Daniel says to him yoga is an escape from reality. Everyone needs a bit of time for him or herself.

All men who are overstressed and looking for a workout to transform body and mind, this is just what you need. It will help your mind to focus on the present and drop the baggage of yesterday or tomorrow that you are carrying at the moment.
Studies show that physical benefits of yoga are: lower blood pressure, stress decrease, sleeping better and increasing the happy hormone, Dopamine.
Janine Willson is also presenting Kiddies’ Yoga. According to Janine, yoga is very beneficial for kids as well. Children deal with many distractions, temptations and peer pressure. She says that yoga is a low-cost, helpful tool that can have a positive impact on children. It develops awareness and teaches them to use their bodies in a healthy way. Stress is managed through breathing awareness, meditation and healthy movement and being part of a non-competitive group increases their confidence and boosts positive self-image. With breathing exercises focus is increased and concentration improved.
